Statement of Intent

I am a designer and illustrator based across Southern California (US), Southern British Columbia (CA), and Beijing (China). My family and I were from Beijing, and we moved to a tiny border town in Canada when I was 9 years old, then we moved to B.C., and I eventually got to Los Angeles in California. Living across a large shift in culture, and has lived in both tiny towns and large central diverse cities, I’ve seen and experienced a great variety of lifestyles as well. Helping me build multiple perspectives in anything I create. And as an individual who has always had a passion for drawing and crafting, I believe compelling imagery can communicate complex ideas more easily and powerfully than large blocks of words. Therefore, I chose design as my higher education and the industry I hope to enter as a career.

Pursuing at ArtCenter College of Design (ACCD), I’ve always heard about the school’s rigorous, industry-focused environment. I chose ACCD for the emphasis on practical skills and collaborative culture, which links the professional creative world. I draw inspiration from everywhere, a moment observed in daily life might spark an idea for a set of characters, while a scientific article could spark an entire environment design. Stories and ideas are like fireworks in the night sky, making a loud and bright entrance to my head. My work hopes to convey mood and personality through design choices, from subtle costume details to expansive environmental storytelling.

My designer goals aims to contribute to projects that push creative boundaries in entertainment media. I’m especially interested in how design can enhance emotional engagement in animated films, games, and interactive experiences. As a personal goal that may be ambitious. I want to, with a team, create a game of our own. Where we can tell stories and share emotions through the medium of gaming. In that process, I would focus on world-building, character design, and visual development, always with an emphasis on storytelling fundamentals.

In the Entertainment Design Concept major at Art Center College of Design, I hope to learn more about the entertainment industry and learn skills that can push me one step closer to my designer goals. In this major, I hope to also meet others in the community who also have a passion for creating.
